From the desk of Dr. Janice Spada
When I began practicing dentistry in 1982, . Orthodontics was very different. Back then, patients who wanted straighter teeth had no choice but to rely on traditional metal braces with elastic bands, brackets, and frequent trips to an orthodontist.
Today, I’m pleased to offer my patients Invisalign in Sudbury, MA. Invisalign, which uses clear plastic aligners to subtly shift errant teeth into place.
It’s a remarkable opportunity for anyone who has ever kept their smile under wraps out of embarrassment about the spacing and straightness of their teeth.
Invisalign Goes Beyond Traditional Metal Braces
As someone who lives for making patients smile, it pains me to hear from patients who have avoided cosmetic dentistry or braces for fear that others will tease them about visible orthodontic appliances.
If you have ever experienced similar doubts about straightening your teeth, I encourage you to consider Invisalign as a discrete, effective means of achieving the smile you’ve always wanted.
Among the many benefits of using plastic aligners, my patients most frequently praise Invisalign for several reasons:
- Unlike metal braces, Invisalign aligners do not cut or irritate your gums, tongue, or inner cheek.
- You can remove the aligners when you eat, so you needn’t worry about food becoming lodged between wires and brackets. Because you do not wear Invisalign while eating, you needn’t worry about food restrictions.
- Others cannot usually tell when you are using Invisalign—unless you tell them, of course!
Your Mouth Will Love Invisalign, Too
In matters of oral health, Invisalign affords key advantages over metal braces. For example, did you know that patients who use the invisible aligners are less likely to experience tooth decay and demineralization? You will also appreciate that this option caries a reduced risk of root resorption, the process by which the root structures of your teeth are gradually destroyed and resorbed by your body.
With metal braces, it’s nearly impossible to see how far your teeth have come until you remove the wires and brackets nearly two years later. With Invisalign, you visit my Sudbury, MA dentist office every two weeks. During that time, I will check your progress and provide you with a new set of aligners.
I believe it’s much easier for my patients to stick with their program and wear the aligners as directed because they can actually see the results for themselves. I must add that regular dental exams and professional hygiene visits are especially important during treatment.
Technology and innovations aside, some aspects of my approach to dentistry—courtesy, individual attention, and a genuine desire to improve the lives of patients—will never change.
